Current Fishing on Clear LakeWe have been waiting for something really good to report and it is
here. The fall live bait bite is going. Not huge numbers regarding
daily fish count, we averaged 8 fish per rod. The size of the fish
is what is impressive. Out of 24 fish landed in two trips we boated
          the above 9, 8, plus a 6, two 5’s, and a hand full of solid 4
pounders. Both days produced 5 fish limits of 27 pounds, not typical
of this time of year but if you are not going to get numbers, nothing
wrong with size. The artificial bite on the other hand, is a tough deal depending on the day. Best bets remain the rattle bait yo yo deal, medium sized swim baits, and a jig. Plastic worms are also producing but they are also being pestered by short fish. Don’t be surprised either with a catfish or two during the day as they are still active as all heck. |

Activity This MonthThankfully we are past the mess of tournament activity that normally
beats the lake to death in September and October. There is no significant
          tournament activity this month. |

Reviewing the ResultsThe big fish-off tournaments that took over the lake over the past
7 weeks really tell a story that matches up with the results we have
seen all year here. Almost half of the fields were unable to bring
a limit of fish to the scales each day. There were only a couple of
fish weighed in during competition that weighed 8 pounds and above
and only one double digit. Overall though the average fish weight was
          up.  | |||||||||
A Couple of New RodsKeep an eye out for two new Powell rods coming soon that are being developed by the brain trust of Powell and Elite series Pro Jared Lintner in specialized rods available only through Tackle Warehouse. The new Football Head Jig rod features a longer handle below the reel seat and a new 7 foot eleven crank bait rod. Also check out the specialty
rods within the line of Matt Newman’s
new iRods. We saw them at Monster Jam and really like the big swim
bait rods and the specialty frog rod. They feature light weight blanks,
top notch components, and we really like how light they feel in your
hands. The iRod line runs about $150 and will be showing up soon in
          more and more retailers. |

Scheduling in 2011If you are thinking about fishing in March, April, or May next year
start thinking about some dates, making plans, and firming up dates
on our calendar. There just were not very many dates left open for
those 3 months this year and I don’t want anyone to miss out
on the action in 2011. |
